All-New Trolley Tours of Historic Schenectady Scheduled from June through November
SCHENECTADY, N.Y. –The Albany Trolleys, in conjunction with the Chamber of Schenectady County, will begin offering tours of the historic city on June 15. Tours will continue through November and are scheduled for the third Sunday and the second Thursdays of each month.
The guided tours include the Stockade, Union College, GE Realty Plot and the downtown sector. The cost is $23 per person and includes admission to the Schenectady Museum, home of the Heritage Area Visitors Center. Reservations are required by calling 518-462-3825.
“We’ve been working with the Chamber for about a year to create this tour,” said Albany Aqua Ducks President Robert Wolfgang. The Albany Trolleys are a division of the Aqua Ducks.
“With the city’s rich history, the tour is fun and educational. We’re delighted to be part of all the new and exciting things happening in Schenectady,” Mr. Wolfgang said.
Chuck Steiner, President of the Chamber of Schenectady County, said: “These tours are an exceptional opportunity to showcase the rich history and architecture of Schenectady, along with the remarkable renaissance of the downtown business community.”
Schenectady was first settled in 1661 when the area was part of the Dutch colony of New Netherland. The tour will explore the city’s heritage and history and answer such questions as:
• Where is the United States’ first “electric house”?
• What New York State Governor hailed from Schenectady?
• Where is a house with 25-inch-thick walls and secret passages?
