This is the third 2008 FALL COLOR REPORT for New York State. Reports are obtained from field observers and reflect expected color conditions for the coming weekend. FALL COLOR REPORTS are issued every Wednesday.

Fall’s magnificent kaleidoscope of color continues to gradually make its way across New York State, with some higher elevations of the Adirondacks expected to be near peak by the weekend, according to observers for the Empire State Development Division of Tourism’s I LOVE NEW YORK program. FALL COLORS CONTINUE TO EMERGE ACROSS NEW YORK STATE

The spectacular colors of autumn continue to emerge across New York State, with the most significant changes continuing to take place in the Adirondacks and Catskills regions, according to observers for the Empire State Development Division of Tourism’s I LOVE NEW YORK program. Additionally, the Finger Lakes and Thousand Islands-Seaway regions are also reporting some early stage color change.

Empire State Development Announces 9 Percent increase in direct tourism spending for New York State in 2007

Tourism industry growth exceeds $50 billion mark for first time

Sept. 8 — Empire State Development (ESD) today announced a 9 percent increase in direct tourism spending for New York State in 2007.  Last year visitors spent $51 billion in the local economy, according to a study commissioned by the Department of Economic Development’s Division of Tourism.  This includes a $44 billion contribution to the State’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP), a 12 percent increase that exceeds the State’s overall GDP growth by 5 percent. The Olympic Regional Development Authority (ORDA) and Governor Paterson today announced that Lake Placid will host dozens of winter sports competitions including World Championships and World Cup events in advance of the 2010 Winter Games in Vancouver, British Columbia.
