Celebrate International Home Movie Day Saturday, Oct. 17

Rochester, N.Y. - You are invited to celebrate home movies in Rochester on Saturday, Oct. 17, as part of the seventh annual International Home Movie Day, which takes place simultaneously in cities across the world. The Rochester celebration takes place 2 to 5 p.m. at Visual Studies Workshop, in collaboration with George Eastman House. The event, which is free and open to the public, is a worldwide celebration of home movies and amateur films that provides the opportunity for communities to see and share home movies, and learn how best to care for them. Albany, NY - Empire State Development’s I LOVE NEW YORK program has released its fifth 2009 Fall Color Report for New York State. Brilliant peak colors are expected to arrive in the Catskills region and parts of the Central-Leatherstocking region this weekend, according to field observers for Empire State Development’s I LOVE NEW YORK program. Travelers to the Adirondacks will find a mixture of peak and past peak conditions with plenty of stunning fall hues remaining. Please note that high winds forecasted for parts of the state may have an adverse effect on the foliage, with greater than usual leaf droppage. Read more »

Film Festival Announces Finalists of First Online Short Film Competition

Rochester, N.Y. - The Rochester High Falls International Film Festival has announced the names of the top three finalists in its first-ever online short film contest. The contest, introduced in August, offers cash and movie screenings as prizes for unique digital movies three minutes or shorter in length.

Albany, NY — Empire State Development’s I LOVE NEW YORK program has released its fourth 2009 Fall Color Report for New York State. Gorgeous colorful peak foliage is expected to make its first appearance in the Adirondacks region this weekend, according to field observers for Empire State Development’s I LOVE NEW YORK program. Color is also advancing rapidly in the Catskills region and should be near peak in most areas there.  Read more »

Great Lakes Seaway Trail Maritime Heritage Poster Goes to School

Are there really one thousand 1,000 Islands? Which Oswego County waterbody is also named Heh-Hah-Wa-Gah? What were the top commodities shipping into Little Sodus Bay in 1891? What role did Lake Erie play in the early maritime history of New York and Pennsylvania?

The new fact-filled, 17 inch x 44 inch, color, illustrated Great Lakes Seaway Trail Maritime Heritage poster has the answers. Ten thousand (10,000) of the posters are now in public schools and BOCES systems in the 11 counties along the St. Lawrence River, Lake Ontario, Niagara River and Lake Erie in NY and PA.
