Albany, NY - Empire State Development’s I LOVE NEW YORK program today released its third 2009 Fall Color Report for New York State. Brilliant, near-peak foliage will make its first appearance in New York State this weekend in parts of the Adirondacks, while rapidly changing colors in the Catskills will bring most of the region to around the midpoint of change, according to I LOVE NEW YORK field observers. A Haunting We Will Go: Fort Ontario Ghost Tours Available in October

The recreated Spanish Influenza Morgue at Fort Ontario in 1918.  During World War I Fort Ontario was taken over by the Medical Department and housed the largest Post Hospital (#5) in the United States.  Hundreds of influenza and tuberculosis victims were treated at the fort.Oswego, NY — Fort Ontario State Historic Site will offer its popular guided ghost tours on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, October 8, 9, and 10, from 7 to 9 p.m. Tickets are available by advance purchase only and cost $8 for the public and $5 for Friends of Fort Ontario members.

Tours are scheduled in 10-minute increments, group sizes are limited, and no walk-ons are allowed. Sensible clothing and footwear is recommended and there is much walking and climbing involved. Albany, NY – Empire State Development’s I LOVE NEW YORK program today released its second 2009 Fall Color Report for New York State. The program’s statewide field observers report that bright, beautiful fall colors are quickly overtaking the green shades of summer in the Adirondacks and Catskills regions. Noticeable color changes are also expected for some parts of the Capital-Saratoga, Central Leatherstocking, Chautauqua-Allegheny and Finger Lakes regions.

Celebrate National Hunting and Fishing Day Sept. 26 in Altmar

Children of all ages will be able to take part in a variety of activities at the DEC’s open house at the Salmon River Fish Hatchery in Altmar. Burt correctly identified a largemouth bass in the DEC’s fish identification game.Altmar, NY - A full day of children’s activities, fishing seminars and outdoor programs are planned for this year’s open house on National Hunting and Fishing Day, Saturday, Sept. 26, at the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation’s (DEC) Salmon River Fish Hatchery.

This is the 14th annual open house at the hatchery, located at 2133 county Route 22 in Altmar. The event takes place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., rain or shine. There is no admission charge. Read more »

Fulton Museum Hosts War of 1812 Lecture, Sept. 23

Fulton, NYFulton, NY – Historian Dr. Gary M. Gibson will present a lecture on Fulton’s role in the War of 1812 at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 23, at the John Wells Pratt House.
