Waterford, NY- The historic canal motorship Day Peckinpaugh travels the Champlain Canal from 8/21/09 through 8/29/09 on its 500-mile Quadricentennial Legacy Voyage from Lake Champlain to New York Harbor. In the past seventy-five years, Garnerville Holding Company has been a guardian and caretaker of this unusual and inspiring collection of 19th century industrial-era buildings with hidden alleyways and alcoves reminiscent of a Dickens’ novel. A vibrant community of artists and artisans brings varied perspectives and new insights to this historic landmark. Oswego, NY - The annual encampment of the French and Indian War will take place at Fort Ontario State Historic Site, Oswego, NY, on Saturday August 29 from 10 AM to 4:30 PM, and Sunday August 30 from 10 AM to 3 PM. The sights, sounds, and smells of camp and garrison life will greet visitors as they visit camps of British, French and native American troops and warriors who fought each other on these ground in the 1750’s. Sackets Harbor, NY - Sixty-five years ago 982 people arrived at Fort Ontario in Oswego, NY. They would stay the next 18 months at the only World War II refugee camp on U.S. soil. On August 20th at 6pm in Sackets Harbor, NY, Safe Haven, Inc. President Elizabeth A. Kahl will share the story of those 982 “guests” of President Franklin D. Dutch Royal Family to visit NYC during NY400 Week; special Continental Airlines fare between Amsterdam and NYC to Result in increased tourism
Amsterdam, The Netherlands - NY400 Ambassador Eric Niehe, NYC & Company CEO and New York City NY400 Chair George Fertitta and Deputy Mayor of the City of Amsterdam Carolien Gehrels have announced details of a global celebration, “NY400 Week.” They have invited residents of the Netherlands and the United States to visit each other during the celebrations commemorating the 400th anniversary of Henry Hudson’s arrival to New York City. NY400 Week will take place September 8-13 and will include a visit by HRH the Prince of Orange and HRH Princess Máxima of the Netherlands, a variety of events, exhibits, outdoor activities and performances across the five boroughs including, direct from Holland, the New Island Festival.
