Greater Hudson Heritage Network to Honor Lyndhurst and Westchester County with “Awards Towards Excellence”

Lyndhurst EstateBear Mountain, NY – At its Annual Meeting on October 2, 2009, the Greater Hudson Heritage Network (GHHN) will present the 24th Annual Awards Towards Excellence to fourteen recipients.

The Awards Towards Excellence program seeks to recognize and commend exceptional efforts among GHHN members. Awards are made to projects and organizations that exemplify creativity and professional vision resulting in a contribution to the preservation and interpretation of the historic scene, material culture and diversity of the Greater Hudson region - from the Battery to Albany. Samuel Dorsky Museum of Art to open two ‘Art and the River’ exhibitions in September

greg-miller.jpgNew Paltz, NY – The Samuel Dorsky Museum of Art at the State University of New York at New Paltz will present the final two exhibitions in its six-month “Art and the River” series, the college’s contribution to the Hudson River Quadricentennial, beginning next month.

 

“The Hudson River: A Great American Treasure” by Greg Miller and “Inscription” by Philippine Hoegen and Carolien Stikker will open Sept. 19 and run through Nov. 29. An opening reception will be held for both shows from 4 to 6 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 19. Read more »

Explore Albany During New York’s First Heritage Weekend

Quadricentennial Implementation Grant Awardees Announced

16 Projects to Receive $50,000

Albany, NY - The Hudson River Valley Greenway and the Hudson River Valley National Heritage Area are pleased to announce the recipients of the 2009 Hudson River Valley Quadricentennial Implementation Grant Program grants. A total of $50,000 was awarded to sixteen projects throughout the Hudson Valley.  Funding for this grant program was allocated by the National Park Service and is part of the $750,000 secured by Congressman Maurice Hinchey for Quadricentennial programs and events.  Read more »

2009 Quadricentennial Legacy Voyage Comes to the Champlain Canal

Day-O!Canal motorship Day Peckinpaugh joined by other historic vessels in Whitehall, Fort Edward, and Schuylerville

Waterford, NY- The historic canal motorship Day Peckinpaugh travels the Champlain Canal from 8/21/09 through 8/29/09 on its 500-mile Quadricentennial Legacy Voyage from Lake Champlain to New York Harbor. The 259-foot canal boat, built in 1921, will be joined by the 1901 Tug Urger and both vessels will be open to the public for free tours at Skenesborough Harbor Park in Whitehall on Friday, August 21, at the Canal Maintenance Facility in Fort Edward on Sunday, August 23, and at the Hudson Crossing Fest on Lock 5 Island in Schuylerville on Saturday, August 29 Read more »

The Odd TrioAlbany, NY - The Capital Region’s popular mascot, Rowdy the Rat, from the Albany Rats, hops on board the Albany Aqua Ducks to learn more about the Capital City he calls home during the historic city’s Quadricentennial Celebration.
