Mushroom and Lichen Hikin’

Join in on the fungus Saturday, October 11, at 10 a.m., as the Hudson Highlands Nature Museum explains all about mushrooms, lichens, toadstools and fairy rings. This time of year is the perfect time to find beautiful examples of colorful fructifications of the fascinating mushroom group. Come to the Museum’s, Outdoor Discovery Center location, 20 Kenridge Farm Drive, Route 9W, Cornwall, to identify some common fungus among us with Education Coordinator, Judy Onufer. FALL COLORS CONTINUE TO EMERGE ACROSS NEW YORK STATE

The spectacular colors of autumn continue to emerge across New York State, with the most significant changes continuing to take place in the Adirondacks and Catskills regions, according to observers for the Empire State Development Division of Tourism’s I LOVE NEW YORK program. Additionally, the Finger Lakes and Thousand Islands-Seaway regions are also reporting some early stage color change.

FIRST SIGNS OF COLORFUL FALL FOLIAGE EMERGING IN NEW YORK STATE

This is the first 2008 FALL COLOR REPORT for New York State. Reports are obtained from field observers and reflect expected color conditions for the coming weekend. FALL COLOR REPORTS are issued every Wednesday.

The 2008 foliage season in New York State is officially underway as the first significant colors of autumn are appearing in the Adirondacks and Catskills region, according to observers for the Empire State Development Division of Tourism’s I LOVE NEW YORK program.

September 18 Journaling for Birders Workshop with Roger Tory Peterson Institute Educator at Seaway Trail Discovery Center

Sackets Harbor, NY – In 1934, birder, artist, photographer, educator and naturalist Roger Tory Peterson published his first Field Guide to the Birds, inspiring Americans to get outside to appreciate nature. On September 18, Mark Baldwin, director of education at the 100-year-old Roger Tory Peterson Institute of Natural History in Jamestown, NY, will continue that legacy by offering a Journaling for Birders interactive workshop at the Seaway Trail Discovery Center in Sackets Harbor.
