Whiteface Still Going Strong!

WILMINGTON, N.Y. – Whiteface, home of the East’s greatest vertical drop, is still going strong with great skiing and riding conditions.
Current base depths at the mountain range from 28-inches to 58-inches, with over 165-inches of natural snowfall. January’s low temperatures allowed Whiteface to maximize snowmaking capabilities and lay down a superb base. The capital improvements made to the antiquated compressors dramatically increased the snowmaking capacity and efficiency. Whiteface’s fleet of Snowcats is continually resurfacing the mountain’s snow, laying down fresh carpet each night. Read more »

Albany, NY -  Continued cold weather and new snow are setting the stage for more terrific skiing this weekend in New York State. Over the past five days, many Empire State ski areas have received significant new snow, including Plattekill Mountain in Roxbury (26 inches), Peek ‘n Peak in Clymer (22 inches), Kissing Bridge in Glenwood (21 inches) and Whiteface Mountain in Wilmington (20 inches).

Gore Mountain & North Creek Prepare to Celebrate Skiing History!

NORTH CREEK, N.Y. Feb. 20, 2009 -At 10:30 am on March 4, 1934, the first snow train transporting 378 Gore Mountain skiers arrived from Schenectady at the North Creek station that is located in the heart of the six-million-acre Adirondack Park. This date established North Creek as a winter recreation destination and Gore Mountain became home to one of the first commercial ski areas and ski patrols in the United States. This first train was organized by Vincent Schaefer of the Schenectady Wintersports Club.
