Oswego County, NY — October sets the state’s regular deer hunting season into motion. Boasting opening day of the northern zone, it gives average hunters their first chance to go out and drop a deer. For guys who prefer the relative comfort of the state’s more cultivated region, it gets them psyched-up for the southern zone’s opener next month. Altmar, NY - A full day of children’s activities, fishing seminars and outdoor programs are planned for this year’s open house on National Hunting and Fishing Day, Saturday, Sept. 26, at the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation’s (DEC) Salmon River Fish Hatchery.
This is the 14th annual open house at the hatchery, located at 2133 county Route 22 in Altmar. The event takes place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., rain or shine. There is no admission charge. Read more »
Saratoga Springs, N.Y. – Saratoga Polo welcomes avid polo player and host of America’s Most Wanted, John Walsh, to the fields this Labor Day weekend. Walsh will play with his team, Shamrock, during the Friday, Sept. 4 and Sunday, Sept. 6 matches. Walsh is best known for his role on the crime-fighting television show that has helped capture more than 1,050 dangerous fugitives and bring home more than 50 missing children in the past 22 years. Saratoga Springs, NY - The 14th Annual Travers Festival features nine days of events and activities leading up to the Shadwell Travers Stakes, otherwise known as America’s “Mid-Summer Derby”, on August 29th. The Travers Festival runs from Saturday, August 22nd through Sunday, August 30th.
