It’s a Super Sunday at Whiteface
Wilmington, N.Y. — The secret is out that Whiteface Mountain, in Wilmington, N.Y., is one of the world’s best ski destinations. And as if we needed any proof or validation, Smarter Travel included the resort in its listing of the “10 Best International Ski Destinations.”
Whiteface Mountain was one of only three ski resorts in the United States to make the list. Recognized worldwide as the Olympic mountain, for hosting the 1980 Olympic Winter Games alpine events, and for having the greatest vertical east of the Rockies, at 3,430-feet, Whiteface Mountain, Wilmington and the Lake Placid region were also touted for its unique array of off-hill activities that guests can also experience such as biathlon, skeleton sliding and bobsledding. Oswego, N.Y. — Oz Roller Derby (OzRD) will bring back fast-moving, co-ed renegade roller derby to Oswego this Saturday, December 7th, at the Oswego YMCA Armory.
Doors open at 5 p.m. and the first jam whistle blows at 6 p.m.
Renegade roller derby is similar to, yet very different from, most popular versions of roller derby played in upstate New York. Renegade derby is identified as ‘No Rules’ derby because there are no penalties assigned to skaters. There are basic rules for timing, scoring, blocking and general gameplay and they are all very similar to other forms of derby. Some key differences include no stopping on the track, legal player takedowns and both male and female skaters compete on the track at the same time. Spectators find this form of derby easy to understand, fast-paced and exciting. Read more »
