Cornwall, NY - To introduce Mothers, Grandmothers and their families to the Hudson Highlands Nature Museum’s Discovery Quest trails, the Museum is inviting mothers, grandmothers and their families to enjoy a complementary Discovery Quest admission and one free Quest Guidebook per family on Saturday, and Sunday, May 9 and 10. The trails, located at the Museum’s Outdoor Discovery Center, entrance on Muser Drive, across from 174 Angola Road, Cornwall, are fun for all ages and abilities. Belleayre Music Festival Holds Annual Silent Auction Fundraiser BBQ
Highmount, NY (April 28, 2009) - The Belleayre Triple Crown Award is making its debut at the First Annual Memorial Day Weekend Splash into Summer Extravaganza. On Saturday, May 23 Belleayre will host a Kayak Regatta at the Belleayre Beach, a Mountain Biking Race to the Summit and an afternoon Rail Jam at the Overlook Lodge featuring DJ Wavy Davy. Visitors are welcome to register for each event and encouraged to enter all three with the possibility of winning the newly created Belleayre Triple Crown. OSWEGO COUNTY, NY — New York’s spring turkey season opens on May 1. One of the best places to get one of these wily ol’ birds is Oswego County.
Indeed, New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) records show that hunters in most counties reported shooting fewer of these delicious fowl in spring 2008 than in 2007. With strokes of genius, artists in the Middle Ages explored the medium of drawing, creating a rich panoply of works ranging from spontaneous sketches to powerful evocations of spirituality and intriguing images of science and the natural world. Opening June 2 at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, Pen and Parchment: Drawing in the Middle Ages will be the first museum exhibition to examine in depth the achievements of the medieval draftsman. Through some 50 examples created in settings as diverse as a ninth-century monastery and the 14th-century French court, the presentation will consider the aesthetics, uses, and techniques of medieval drawings, mastered by artists working centuries before the dawn of the Renaissance. Works from the collection of the Metropolitan Museum will be displayed along with important loans from American and European museums, and the great national, university, and monastic libraries of Europe.
