The second concert is from 11 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 5 (rain date is Aug. 6).

On board will be singer/songwriter Bert Mayne with guitar in hand and inviting everyone to sing along to his special blend of folk, blues, country and more! Read more »

ACCA Board Approves First Land Purchase for Proposed Convention Center

acca.gifAlbany, N.Y. — The Board of Directors of the Albany Convention Center Authority (ACCA) today approved the purchase of the first parcel of land for the proposed New York State convention center to be located off Broadway and along Hudson Ave.

This investment is being made by the State of New York, at the direction of Governor David A. Paterson, who in the fall of 2008 approved an allocation of $10 million through the Empire State Development Corp. to fund the advancement of land acquisition, pre-construction planning, environmental investigation, archeology and historic conservation for the convention center project. Governors Island Welcomes 100,000 Visitors, Increases Brooklyn Ferry Service

New York, NY - Governors Island has become such a popular destination for Brooklyn residents that more ferry service will be offered between the borough and Governors Island, the Governors Island Preservation and Education Corporation (GIPEC) today announced. Earlier this summer, GIPEC announced a free ferry between the Fulton Ferry Landing and Governors Island on select summer weekend days. Due to popular demand, the free ferry will now be offered every Saturday and Sunday through Labor Day weekend. Ferries run every 20 minutes between Fulton Ferry Landing and Governors Island on these weekends. Read more »

Lake Placid native Andrew Weibrecht competing at Whiteface during the 2008 NorAm Championships.Lake Placid, N.Y. - The greatest alpine skiers in the country are set to return to the Olympic venue of Whiteface/Lake Placid March 20-23, 2010 as the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association (USSA) and Olympic Regional Development Authority (ORDA) announced Whiteface as host of the 2010 U.S. Alpine Championships.

Located in nearby Wilmington, the 1980 Olympic alpine venue will feature athletes fresh from the Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver including two-time World Cup overall champion and double World Championships gold medalist Lindsey Vonn (Vail, Colo.) and 2006 Olympic gold medalist Ted Ligety (Park City, Utah). Waterford, NY- The historic canal motorship Day Peckinpaugh kicks off its 500-mile 2009 Quadricentennial Legacy Voyage at Matton Shipyard in Cohoes on Saturday and Sunday, August 1-2. The vessel will travel the Champlain and Hudson Corridor from Burlington, Vt. to New York Harbor, stopping at 14 ports-of-call for festivals, events, and free tours. The public is invited to step on board the 1921 canal motorship, as well as the 1901 Tug Urger, from 10 am to 6 pm both days. Read more »
