Town of Hunter Named a Preserve America Community

A letter and photograph from First Lady Michelle Obama stating the Town of Hunter’s designation as a Preserve America community was received in Hunter Town Hall last month.Haines Falls, NY - The Mountain Top Historical Society is pleased to announce that the Town of Hunter has been named a Preserve America Community.  Hunter is the first community to be so designated in Greene County. The Society applied for the Town’s designation which makes it eligible to participate in a federal program administered by the Advisory Council on Historic Preservation and the National Park Service. A letter from First Lady Michelle Obama was sent to Hunter Town Supervisor Dennis Lucas last month announcing that Hunter was one of 26 communities nationwide to be named as Preserve America communities this year. ROCHESTER, N.Y. - The Dryden Theatre at George Eastman House presents every Wednesday in September and October a series of films and documentaries that focus on persons with disabilities, titled Our Flesh and Blood.

“Each of these films demonstrates the power of cinema to connect us with those who seem different, but, which in the end, remind us that all of us, disabled or not, share the same aspirations for life,” said Jim Healy, Eastman House’s assistant curator of motion pictures. “We are all flesh and blood.” Read more »

Rochester, NYImageOut, Upstate New York’s longest running lesbian and gay film and video festival, is pleased to announce the 17th annual program lineup at the Festival Fair!  This is the first chance for the public to learn about this year’s exciting Festival lineup and buy tickets prior to online sales.  The Fair is Tuesday, September 8th, 6:00-11:00 p.m., at the Rochester Museum and Science Center’s Eisenhart Auditorium, 657 East Avenue, Rochester.
