Auburn, N.Y. - On Dec. 12, Auburn is opening its doors to showcase the area’s cultural gems during the city’s annual Holiday Traditions event http://historyshometown.com/.  Coordinated by Auburn’s Historic and Cultural Sites Commission, this event elevates the town’s traditions and holiday spirit to feature works of art, celestial music and hidden historical treasures. During the day, visitors to the city can delight in a variety of celebratory events, occurring from 12:00PM to 5:00PM.  In addition, food pantry donations are accepted at all locations to benefit the Cayuga County Food Pantry. Spend Saturday Dec 4 strolling the streets with “Friends of Bob Cratchit” and enjoy free horse drawn carriage rides, local business open houses and sales, numerous craft bazaars, a local art show and an indoor farmers market.  Stay for the parade at 3:30, tree lighting ceremony, a visit with Mr. & Mrs. Claus or stop in and enjoy a wine tasting from local vendors to round out Saturday’s activities. belleayrelogo2.jpgHighmount, N.Y. - Over 1000 skiers and riders came out over the past weekend to help Belleayre kick off the 2010-2011 Skiing and Riding Season. People travelled from all over to make their first turns of the season at Belleayre, the only ski mountain currently open in the Catskills. The weekend was a great success and the man-made snow received fantastic reviews from people who have been impatiently waiting to break out their skis and snowboards. Read more »

Plattekill Opens Season with Improvements, Discounts, and an Award

plattekill.JPGRoxbury, N.Y. - Plattekill Mountain, recently honored as 2010 Tourism Business of the Year by the Delaware County Chamber of Commerce, is gearing up for the 2010-11 winter season, and is set continue the barrage of trail, lodge and terrain improvements begun last year.  They have added 22 more tower snow guns to the already expanded fleet, pushing the grand total to close to 100, and putting more snow on the trails faster.  They have also acquired a new bombardier groomer, which coupled with the bombardier winch cap added last year, means even better surface conditions on their slopes.
