Metropolitan Museum to Host Panel Discussion and Performance by The Baseball Project in Celebration of the Installation “Breaking the Color Barrier in Major League Baseball”

New York, N.Y. - An Evening of Baseball History and Music, an event celebrating both the new installation Breaking the Color Barrier in Major League Baseball, and the Met’s renowned permanent baseball card collection, will be hosted by the Museum’s Spectrum Initiative on Friday evening, April 13, at 7:30 p.m. The event, which will be held in the Museum’s Grace Rainey Rogers Auditorium, will feature a panel discussion with sportswriters and baseball insiders on topics ranging from the racial integration of the major leagues to the history and evolution of baseball card collecting.  The discussion will be followed by a baseball-themed musical performance by indie-rock “supergroup” The Baseball Project.  The event is timed to coincide with the beginning of the 2012 baseball season and Jackie Robinson Day in Major League Baseball, which will be celebrated on April 15. Iroquois Indian Museum Opens May 1 with New Exhibit ‘Birds and Beasts in Beads’

iroquois-indian-museum.JPGHowes Cave, N.Y. — The Iroquois Indian Museum opens for its 2012 season on May 1 with a new exhibit and a wealth of special events throughout the year.

From May 1 until the closing day on November 30, the Museum hosts the exhibition, “Birds and Beasts in Beads: 150 Years of Iroquois Beadwork.” The exhibit features more than 200 beaded objects, largely from the collection of retired archeologist and Museum trustee, Dolores Elliott. A great number of animal images appear in Iroquois beadwork including pets, forest wildlife, farm animals, and exotic beasts. The exhibition highlights these animals that appear on varied beaded household items such as purses, pincushions, wall pockets and picture frames made popular during the Victorian era. Read more »

Delhi Covered Bridge Run Set For June 2, 2012

delhi-covered-bridge-run.JPGDelhi, N.Y. - The Greater Delhi Area Chamber of Commerce, in partnership with The Catskill Ladies Association to Support and Inspire (CLASI), has announced that the 17th Delhi Covered Bridge Run will take place on Saturday, June 2nd, 2012. This charitable event consists of a 10K Run, 5K Run and 5K health walk and is being held in conjunction with the Second Annual Delhi Health Festival which will bring all things health related to the Court House Square in Delhi to help inform the public about the resources that are available in this rural area.

The Delhi Covered Bridge Run is the only road race in the greater Delhi area and attracts runners of every level from many neighboring towns and counties. Read more »

The redesign essentially “reskinned” the existing content on the site with a new look. Cornwall Museum offers “Nest Watch” Program!
