PianoSummer at New Paltz presents its 18th season

suny-new-paltz.JPGNew Paltz, N.Y. - The State University of New York at New Paltz presents the 18th season of PianoSummer at New Paltz Festival/Institute. Under the artistic direction of the internationally-renowned maestro, Vladimir Feltsman, concerts, recitals, master classes, lectures and piano competitions, will take place on the college campus from July 14 through August 3.

PianoSummer is an international summer institute and festival dedicated solely to piano music. It features an integrated approach to learning and performance under Feltsman’s direction. This year’s guest artists include Jeremy Denk, Alexander Meinikov and Haesun Paik. Read more »

Senate House State Historic Site Celebrating Independence Day

Kingston, N.Y. - You’re invited to join the Senate House State Historic Site in celebrating Independence Day on Saturday June 30 from 11 a.m.-3 p.m.  The day begins with a Patriotic Service at 11am at which there will be stirring patriotic readings and music to celebrate the independence of our nation.  The service will be followed by an afternoon of music provided by the Headless Horsemen Fife and Drum Corps, 18th century magic performed by “Mr. Bayly” and 18th century games for kids to play. George Eastman House offering sign-language tours

eastman-house1.jpgRochester, N.Y. - George Eastman House is offering sign-language museum tours, focused on George Eastman and his historic home, to serve visitors who are deaf and hard-of-hearing, including visitors from Rochester — which has one the largest deaf populations in the country. Volunteer docent Robert Menchel is conducting these tours on select Saturday mornings.

The 45-minute tour is signed and spoken by Menchel, a retired professor from the National Technical Institute for the Deaf who has been an Eastman House member and volunteer docent for many years. The sign-language tour offers the same information covered during the museum’s daily guided tours. Read more »

King of Trucks rolls into the Fairgrounds this Weekend

king-of-trucks.JPGSyracuse, N.Y. - In case you missed the first ever Regional International King of Trucks All Truck Super Show last year, you can see it again at the State Fairgrounds in Syracuse, Saturday, June 2 and Sunday, June 3. King of Trucks is organized by Right Coast Inc., who also hosts the widely popular Syracuse Nationals to take place Friday, July 20 through Sunday, July 22 this year.

Although you won’t find any cars at this show, you will see more than 2,000 vehicles from tractor trailers to lowered mini-trucks are expected to come from across the Northeast and Canada to display their blinding chrome, huge wheels, slammed or lifted suspensions, and thundering stereo systems! Governor Cuomo Launches Summer Tourism Advertising Campaign

Albany, N.Y. - Governor Andrew M. Cuomo today launched a new tourism advertising campaign featuring a reinvention of the iconic “I Love NY” logo in order to promote the New York’s unmatched vacation destinations and attractions. For the first time ever, the State has asked New Yorkers and visitors to help remake the “I Love NY” logo by submitting personal sketches depicting what they love about New York State. The “I Love NY” logo has not been used in television ads in over three years.

The ads feature destinations in all regions of the state. After years of cuts to tourism promotion, this ad campaign fulfills Governor Cuomo’s campaign promise to support tourism across the state this year. Visit http://www.iloveny.com/ to explore the new campaign and watch the ads.

Step into an Adventure on a Tioga Journeys Tour

tioga-county.JPGOwego, N.Y. - Tioga County Tourism is pleased to announce its 2012 “Tioga Journeys” schedule of tours.  This is an opportunity for you to experience and tour those intriguing, interesting, and sometimes unusual, but always fun, destinations you probably wouldn’t do on your own.  Whether on a bus or walking tour, each themed tour will be led by a knowledgeable step-on tour guide.

Cost of the tour is $12 per person or $10 for seniors.  Most tours begin at 10 am and leave from the Tioga County Visitor’s Center at 80 North Avenue, Owego, or you will meet at the tour, depending on the theme.  Reservations for the tour can be made by calling 1-800-671-7772.  Credit cards will be accepted.  Reservations are recommended and walk-ons will be allowed on a space-available basis. Corning Museum of Glass to Present GlassLab Design Performances on Governors Island in Summer 2012

Corning, N.Y. - The Corning Museum of Glass will bring its GlassLab design program to New York’s Governors Island this summer. On weekends, June 30-July 29, designers and graphic designers from the New York region will work with Corning Museum glassmakers in a series of free public glass design performances.

The design performances will feature contemporary graphic designers included in the onsite exhibition Graphic Design-Now in Production, presented by Cooper-Hewitt, National Design Museum and co-organized by the Walker Art Center. Read more »
