Experience the Voices of Contemporary Glass This Summer at the Corning Museum of Glass
Corning, NY - This summer, the voices of contemporary artists echo through The Corning Museum of Glass. Visitors can explore three contemporary glass exhibitions and then express their own artistic voices through hands-on projects for all ages.
Museum activities (May 22 - September 7) include:

- Three contemporary glass-focused special exhibitions, in addition to the permanent collection showcasing 35 centuries of glass history (all included in Museum admission).
- Tours of the collection with an artist who teaches at The Studio, as well as other guided and self-guided tour options (included in Museum admission).
- Live glass demonstrations: Hot Glass Show glassblowing demonstrations (including a new How’d They Do That? show and The Late Show), Flameworking Demos, Glassbreaking Demos, Optical Fiber Demos (NEW this year!). More than 40 shows and demos are offered each day and all are included in Museum admission.
- Design a piece of glass for the You Design It; We Make It! feature of the Hot Glass Show and see if a gaffer chooses your piece to create.
- Forty-minute Make Your Own Glass workshops, with special contemporary-themed projects, like sandblasted vessels, fused pendants, and blown glass sculpture (projects exist for all ages; additional fee applies; reserve your spot at www.cmog.org
The Museum is open until 8:00 p.m. every day from Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day (closes at 5:00 p.m. the rest of the year), giving visitors the opportunity to explore the natural beauty of the region during the day and then explore the Museum’s collections, exhibitions and hands-on activities.
Adult admission to The Corning Museum of Glass is $12.50; kids, 19 and under, receive free admission. Local residents with zip codes beginning with 148, 149, or 169, pay only a $5 admission fee to enjoy all the Museum has to offer. Proof of residency is required.

Masters of Studio Glass: Richard Craig Meitner Exhibition

The intellectual, poetic, and always changing work of the American artist Richard Craig Meitner reflects a variety of influences and ideas, from Japanese textiles and Italian painting and applied arts to science and the natural world. Meitner revels in unusual juxtapositions of forms and ideas, and in the intersections between art and science. Included in Museum admission. Explore international studio glass through the Heineman collection, which showcases more than 240 important works by 87 international artists, including Dale Chihuly, Stanislav Libensky and Jaroslava Brychtová, Harvey K. Littleton, Klaus Moje, and Toots Zynsky. The exhibition focuses on the “voices” of individual artists with video interviews. Included in Museum admission. Little Gather

Little Gather storytelling sessions celebrate the voices through which we tell our stories. Families with kids ages 3 - 10 can experience storytelling through puppet shows, music, physical movement, and other interactive sessions! 11:00 a.m. show for the general public; 9:30 a.m. show for groups. Vitreous Adventures

Kids, ages 8 - 10, can explore the world of glass from a detective’s point of view. In these workshops, kids will sleuth their way through the collections, discover how glass is made, and look for clues that tell them more about the cultures that make glass. 10:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. Free admission. How Did They Do That?
July 7
Have you ever wondered how different types of glass are made? We’ll look for clues in the galleries and answer all of your questions about this crazy material called glass.
Eye for Detail
July 14
With glass, you sometimes have to look at the smallest features to determine where and how a piece of glass was made, and how it was used. Get out your magnifying glass and show us your “eye for detail.”
Clues to the Past
July 21
Every good detective can spot hidden clues. Can you? We’ll discover many things based on clues in the galleries, including evidence of ancient trade routes, ancient culture shock, and even a trend in medieval humor.
Pieces of the Puzzle
July 28
How do detectives solve mysteries? They assemble many pieces of information to figure out the answer. Glass conservation works the same way. Conservators at the Museum put broken pieces of glass back together, similar to how detectives assemble information. Come to the Museum and try to solve some glass puzzles yourself.
