Sip, Savor and Shop at City Winery Dec. 6

Finger Lakes Wine Country, NY: Just in time for the holiday season, New Yorkers will be able to sip New York wines, sample New York foods, and shop for both at City Winery on Sunday, Dec. 6. The afternoon event will also feature a jazz trio led by guitarist Steve Salerno to usher in the Jazz Winterfest celebration of the Long Island Wine Council.

More than 35 wineries from throughout New York State will be joined by farmers and food producers, as well as several local restaurants, to present a taste of New York and celebrate the season. From 2 to 6 pm, consumers may sample over 100 wines from Long Island, the Hudson Valley, the Finger Lakes, and other regions, and have the opportunity to purchase those they particularly enjoy. Ovid’s Metamorphoses Continues Main Stage Theatre Season at New Paltz

New Paltz, NY - Playwright Mary Zimmerman’s award-winning Metamorphoses is more than a revisiting of Ovid’s ancient text - it is a contemporary re-imagining of his timeless tales.

Metamorphoses, recipient of the 2002 Tony Award, Obie Award and Drama Desk Award, will be performed Nov. 12 - 22, in McKenna Theatre at the State University of New York at New Paltz. The play is directed by Nancy Saklad, assistant professor of performance at New Paltz. (more…)

Hopeful Early Opening, Tap into Winter Party, Snow Therapy Winter Season Deals

Highmount, NY - Last Friday afternoon, the Belleayre Mountain snowmaking staff tested the snow guns in order to be prepared for the dropping temperatures. It is the goal of the DEC to open Belleayre Mountain’s season doors on Saturday, November 14th with their Annual Tap into Winter Party, beginning at 1:00pm. An open rail jam event, Fashion Showcase, and Bar Party will be a great celebration, with a promotional ticket price of $25. (more…)

John Brown Symposium in Lake Placid to Feature Major Scholars and Activists

Lake Placid, NY - 150 years ago, abolitionist John Brown was condemned to death by hanging, an action that would lead to his ultimate burial at his farm just outside the village of Lake Placid, NY. His last speech at the trial, and his many letters sent over the next four weeks until his execution at the Charlestown (WV) gallows, gave him an opportunity to articulate his vision, his reasons for his actions, and turned him from a man facing death for treason to a martyr dying to end slavery. ‘Everything’s for Sale’ at GAGA Arts Center!

Opening Reception: Friday, December 4^th, 2009, 6-9 p.m.

Garnerville, NY - A site-specific installation by Tamara Gayer will be on view at the GAGA Arts Center in Garnerville, NY from December 4^th to January 10^th.

The show, Everything’s For Sale, is comprised of ‘Skyline,’ a large scale installation that will use the windows in Gallery B at GAGA as a substrate; and ‘Window,’ a lightbox positioned opposite these windows. ‘Skyline’ plays with the image of the skyline of Manhattan, depicting some of the iconic buildings of this vista and outlining the power and aesthetic history of the City. This piece takes this engagement a stage further by altering some of the specifics, toying with our perception of the generic image of the City. The light box ‘Window’ offers the complementary intimate view of the City. (more…)
