U.S. Alpine Champs to Feature 2010 Olympians

Lake Placid, N.Y.- The 1932 and 1980 Olympic Village of Lake Placid, N.Y. is poised to welcome over a dozen Olympians later this month including three-time medalist Julia Mancuso (Olympic Valley, Calif.) and 2006 gold medalist Ted Ligety (Park City, Utah) when the 2010 U.S. Alpine Championships roll into Whiteface Mountain in nearby Wilmington, N.Y., March 20-23. Partnership Clears Way For Safer Racing At Whiteface; Widening and Modifications Improve Course

Burlington, Vt. - Athletes competing in the Super G and Giant Slalom at Whiteface in Wilmington, N.Y. will race on a much improved trail thanks, in part, to a grant from the Kelly Brush Foundation.

The foundation awarded $10,000 to the New York State Olympic Regional Development Authority (ORDA) for trail modifications to the race course where 50 ski races are hosted each season. At the U.S. Alpine Championships March 20-23, the Super G and Giant Slalom races are set to be held on the improved trail. (more…)

Swain Resort to Host Snowmobile Hill Drag

Swain, N.Y. - Swain Resort will host a snowmobile hill climb on Saturday, March 20. Black Jack Racing, in conjunction with Camoplast, brings you the Woody’s-Dynoport snowmobile hill drag series. Three-hundred horsepower sleds will race up the 650 foot hill at speeds over 100mph, in side-by-side racing action. Racing is open to the public and spectators are welcome. (more…)

The Poné Ensemble for New Music to perform at College

New Paltz, N.Y. - The distinguished Poné Ensemble for New Music will be featured in concert at 8 p.m. on March 23, in McKenna Theatre located on the campus of the State University of New York at New Paltz. Tickets at the door are $10 general admission: $8 for New Paltz faculty/staff/seniors; and $3 for students.

The Poné Ensemble will perform Igor Stravinsky’s L’Histoire du Soldat - a story of a soldier who makes a deal with the Devil, trading his magical violin and the love of his sweetheart for the elusive prospect of wealth and knowledge of the future. (more…)

Wilmington, N.Y. — It’s another Super Sunday, this Sunday, March 14, at Whiteface Mountain. Come celebrate the luck of the Irish with “Shamrock” Sunday and the Whiteface Open, being brought to you by Viking Ski Shop.

Adult lift tickets for the St. Patty’s Day party are just $35, teens are $30 and juniors are $25. Registration for the Whiteface Open will be held at the guest services desk from 8 to 10 a.m. The cost is $20 and helmets are mandatory. (more…)
