I LOVE NEW YORK

Lake Placid Has Year-Round Activities

Lake Placid Year RoundNew York’s highest village (1846 feet), Lake Placid has hosted two Olympic Winter Games — in 1980 and 1932, an honor shared only by Innsbruck, Austria, St. Moritz, Switzerland, and the Savoy region in France. But Whiteface Mountain and skiing aren’t the only things Lake Placid offers.

The area is an all-season destination. In summer, there’s the Lake Placid Horse Show (June 24-29), which is America’s largest horse show; the Ironman Triathlon (July 20); and the Third Annual Geoff Bodine Bobsled Challenge (January 3-5). While culturally there’s the Lake Placid Center for the Arts, the Lake Placed Film Forum and the recently opened WILD Center | Natural History Museum of the Adirondacks, featuring a ‘Living River’, which tracks the path of a marsh to its source at the top of a peak.
