Music, History, Fireworks and More: It’s Summer Fun Time in Albany
ALBANY, N.Y. — The Capital City on the Hudson celebrates July with concerts, theater, historic commemorations and amazing fireworks for the 4th.
At the Times Union Center has fabulous concerts — Billy Joel and Elton John, Lee Greenwood in the Proud to Be an American Concert, Green Day and the Terrific Teen Tour, starring Mitchel Musso. The Palace Theater has John Legend on stage during his “Evolver” world tour.
At Riverfront Park at Corning Preserve, Albany’s ever-popular Alive at Five concert series continues on Thursday evenings, with July featuring the Village People, Black 47 and more. In Albany’s Washington Park, the 21st annual season of free theater opens as Park Playhouse features Disney’s High School Musical, performed “under the stars”. At Capital Repertory theatre, Shear Madness continues on stage.
On July 4th, with the background of the majestic Empire State Plaza, Price Chopper Supermarkets has a dazzling fireworks display with great entertainment and more in this dramatic setting. At the historic Schuyler Mansion, there will be a colonial festival on July 4th, with re-enactors and fifes and drums playing.
At the New York State Museum, the long-awaited exhibition, “1609,” opens on July 3. The exhibit re-examines Henry Hudson’s voyage, the myths that surround it and the legacies of Hudson’s unexpected discovery.
Crailo State Historic Site has its grand re-opening on July 4 and July 5, with an open house, public festivities and the opening of its new exhibit, “Celebration of a Sweet and Alien Land: Colony of the Dutch in the Hudson River Valley”.
