OswegoOswego County in upstate New York - where the warm waters of Lake Ontario combine with cold air masses from Canada to form lake effect snowfall - is a great winter destination for cross-country skiing. Thousands of skiers of all levels are challenged by more than 150 miles of trails.

Northern Oswego County is home to Winona State Forest and is part of the Tug Hill Plateau. Because of its deep snow (it’s said to receive the most snow of any place East of the Rockies), the area offers an outstanding ski season, lasting right through to late spring.

The Annual 50K Tug Hill Tourathon Race (held in February) attracts hundreds of racers from the United States and Canada. The area also offers an extensive network of snowmobile trails and is a popular destination for dog sledding, snowshoeing, ice skating and ice climbing.
