Pulitzer Prize-winning composer’s work to premier in Auburn, NY
Robert Ward’s “In Praise of Science” to be performed
by SU Brass Ensemble
Auburn, New York. –November 6, 2008 – In praise of Science, Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Robert Ward’s new work will have it’s world public premier at the Church of SS Peter and John in Auburn, New York on November 30, 2008. Ward, best known for his Pulitzer Prize-winning opera, The Crucible based on Arthur Miller’s play, was commissioned by Syracuse University to write music for the opening of the Life Sciences Complex, responding with In Praise of Science, a short, celebratory work adapted from a 19th-century poem by Anne Lynch Botta.
In Praise of Science is not Ward’s first commission written for a science building. Ward attests that there is a strong connection between science and art, as both are very creative and has composed pieces for a half a dozen building dedications.
The Syracuse University Brass Ensemble will perform Robert Ward’s In Praise of Science as well as classical and contemporary holiday music at the Church of SS Peter and John, 169 Genesee Street, Auburn on Sunday, November 30, 2008 at 7:00 p.m. The concert is free and open to the public.
