Whiteface Still Going Strong!
Upcoming Events Include NorAm Alpine Finals, Apple Butter Open Moguls, Pond Skimming and More!
WILMINGTON, N.Y. – Whiteface, home of the East’s greatest vertical drop, is still going strong with great skiing and riding conditions.
Current base depths at the mountain range from 28-inches to 58-inches, with over 165-inches of natural snowfall. January’s low temperatures allowed Whiteface to maximize snowmaking capabilities and lay down a superb base. The capital improvements made to the antiquated compressors dramatically increased the snowmaking capacity and efficiency. Whiteface’s fleet of Snowcats is continually resurfacing the mountain’s snow, laying down fresh carpet each night.
The mountain is operating daily from 8:30 AM – 4 PM and has a wide range of upcoming springtime events. Kicking off the spring season is the Skier’s Edge Master’s Regional Championships men’s and women’s March 5-8 super G, giant slalom, super combined and slalom.
The NorAm Alpine Finals follow March 12-16 on Whiteface’s slopes. The North American Cup (NorAm) is one of the proving grounds for some of North America’s top ski racers. Athletes who win titles also are awarded a start spot on the World Cup circuit for the following season, jump starting their international ski racing careers. These up-and-coming alpine skiers take to the trails in men’s and women’s slalom, giant slalom, super G, and super G combined.
Whiteface is planning on ending this year’s ski and ride season on Easter, April 12, conditions permitting. The mountain will host its annual non-denominational Easter service in the morning, followed by a breakfast buffet, an Easter egg hunt with over 2,000 eggs, and special Cloudsplitter scenic gondola rides.Whiteface was recently named to the Top Five Resorts in the East in SKI Magazine’s Reader Resort Survey 2008. The mountain also received kudos for Challenge and Family Programs (No. 6) and Terrain/Variety (No. 10).
Whiteface/Lake Placid also earned the distinction of being #1 in the nation for Off-Hill Activities for the 16th straight year.Coca-Cola proudly presents Coca-Cola Why Not Wednesdays?
