Windham, N.Y. - Known for offering a premier alpine experience with more than 270 skiable acres atop the Catskill Mountains, Windham Mountain expects that guests will soon come to think of the Resort as much more than a ski area.
$7 million has been invested to reshape and enhance the popular mountain. “The investment we have made this summer and for the coming winter will dramatically change how Windham Mountain does business,” said president general manager Chip Seamans.
Visitors will immediately see a large portion of this year’s investment when arriving at the ski resort. The access road and main driveway to the base lodge now takes a new route to create space for an extensive beginner area expansion project. The beginner terrain is located in front of the base lodge and offers four acres featuring two surface lifts for skier and riders to learn the sport. Along with a new intermediate trail on the mountain’s west peak, Windham Mountain will increase its overall trail count to 51 for the 2013-14 season.
Windham Mountain’s snowmaking system is undergoing impressive changes with over $1.5 million in infrastructure upgrades. After several years of investment to improve efficiency and quality, the core of the system is now being upgraded. Four high-efficiency compressors will replace the nine current compressors, and a mid-mountain booster pump will increase the quantity of snow made on the top half of the 3,100 foot mountain.
Since its acquisition, Windham Mountain has invested $1 million in Windham Country Club. Construction is in progress on 5 holes with irrigation to be finished with sod and ready for play Labor Day 2013 and new course bridge across the Batavia Kill. The clubhouse is also newly renovated with the addition of Windham’s newest restaurant, Mulligan’s Pub.
Additional improvements at Windham Mountain for 2013-14 include:
· 9,000 square ft maintenance building
· 37 new and refurbished fan guns
· Remodel of Mountain Sports Boot Lab
· Improvements to the Wheelhouse mid-mountain lodge
· Racing equipment and timing upgrades
· Storm water improvements
